In K1 our goal is to introduce and develop rediness skills.  These rediness skills lay a foundation for a successful school career.  In K1 we use the OWL curriculum.  Opening the World of Learning (OWL) is a comprehensive early literacy program that prepares children for success.  The curriculum covers the following domains of learning:

  • Language and Literacy
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • The Arts
  • Physical Development (fine and gross motor skills)
  • Social and Emotional Development.

There is quiet time in the afternoon when children can take a nap or rest.

There are also specific times for children to have physical activities.  Recess is often not the best opportunity, as it takes our little ones a bit longer than their older school mates to open their lunches, eat their lunches and have fun with their friends!  However, in addition to Jammin' Minutes, there are specialty classes which include dance and other movement.  In addition, we often takes trips throughout our school to visit other classrooms, and even just march up & down the stairs!
