City Connects

City Connects is a project of the Center for Optimized Student Support at Boston College's Lynch School of Education. City Connects places Student Support Coordinators (Licensed Social Workers and School Counselors) in 17 Boston Public Elementary and K-8 Schools. Student Support Coordinators work with school staff, families and community partners to identify the strengths and needs of every student. Coordinators are responsible for creating a uniquely tailored set of intervention, prevention, and enrichment services aimed at helping all students thrive in the classroom. 

Ms. Alvarez is the City Connects Student Support Coordinator at JQES.  Ms. Alvarez is assigned to three grades each and follow those students throughout their elementary years at JQES.

As the hub of student support, Ms. Alvarez provides information on a wide range of resources, programs and services, including the following:

  • Counseling
  • Mentoring
  • Tutoring
  • Social Skills Groups
  • Family Support Programs
  • Parenting Support
  • Before and After School Programs
  • Art and Music Enrichment Programs
  • Fitness, Health and Nutrition Programs
